About how much does it cost to have a Harley's carburetor cleaned? Bike has been sitting for a few years?

About how much will it cost to have a carburetor cleaned/rebuilt? I am trying to get a 1984 Harley low rider running that has been sitting for about five years. The gas tank was filled with sludge so I am going to clean that myself, and I figured the carb needs to be cleaned, but I wasn't sure if I should try to clean the carb myself, so I was wondering about how much would it cost if I brought the bike to a dealer and had them clean the carburetor? Is there anything else I should do to it- Besides basic things like changing sparkplugs/fluids?About how much does it cost to have a Harley%26039;s carburetor cleaned? Ask first because you will be surprised.

All fluids must be changed, battery replaced, fuel lines replaced, fork oil replaced, rubber front and back is probably dry rotted.

My guess is 4 to 6 hours labor and a couple of hundred in parts.

Now go drink a beer and start saving your money.

H-D does not stand for Harley Davidson, it stands for hundred dollars!!!About how much does it cost to have a Harley%26039;s carburetor cleaned? Bike has been sitting for a few years?

Cleaning will follow the same assemebly steps. You may need a carb kit. I would read the article and locate the rebuild kit BEFORE I started. If the take is full of sludge you may want to install a KREEM tank liner and a good fuel filter after you clean it.About how much does it cost to have a Harley%26039;s carburetor cleaned? Hi Dave, I would suggest doing it yourself! If you buy yourself a manual and you own a few tools you can clean and re-build the carby yourself.

All you need is a clean bench and patients.

Your off to a good start already. Removing the fuel tank and then working your way to the carby is the right way to go.

The carby can be a very tricky item, don't be afraid to ask people for advice on certain things but they are pretty straight forward.

Your pilot, main and idle jet are probable gummed up. To get to theses you will need to invert your carby and remove the float bowl.

There you will see the different jets!

You will also notice that in the float bowl there is a float. Under the float there is a needle and seat which I would replace as if this is an old bike this item will cause you heartache because if its stuck open then your carb will continually flood!

Anyway, have a go and see what you find.

Good luck,
